Spiritual authority protects you from Satan's wiles and methods. Satan is no ordinary thief, he is a master thief and loves to destroy the ignorant. Remnant believers have learned to overcome his deceptive strategies through spiritual authority.
The Holy Spirit is your teacher. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). A good teacher is always looking for a good student. A good student is hungry for knowledge. A good student never gets satisfied but is always learning, always growing, and always seeking for new problem-solving skills and opportunities to better themselves.
There is a powerful Scripture in the Word of God that every student should take to heart. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” (Hosea 4:6). God says His people are “destroyed for a lack of knowledge”. This teaches that a lack of knowledge is a dangerous thing to the Disciple of Christ. The word destroyed (Hebrew damah) means to be cut down, destroyed, undone, ceased, or brought to silence.
The Word of God is your greatest treasure. With it you know how to live (Luke 4:4), decree a thing (Job 22:28), light the path of your feet (Psalm 119:105), call those things that be not as though they are (Romans 4:17), and is the sword of the Spirit (Hebrews 4:12). Scripture says that wisdom is the principal thing. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). Wisdom is the opposite of ignorance. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge and, as already mentioned, can destroy you.
A good Disciple of Christ will study the Word of God. This pleases the Holy Spirit, your teacher. Scripture says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth: (2 Timothy 2:15). As you study and meditate on the Word of God, something happens. You begin to change (Romans 12:2). Not only do you change, but wisdom acquired through the Word of God will promote you. “Exalt (wisdom), and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor when thou dost embrace her” (Proverbs 4:8).
Where ever you find great treasures throughout the world, you will find guards. Guards are posted to keep thieves away. As a Disciple of Christ, you must protect your greatest treasure, the Word of God in your heart. Satan is your greatest adversary against truth and will use ignorance as his greatest weapon. Christ said, “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the wayside” (Matthew 13:19). Now you see why it’s important to make sure you understand the Word of God.
Satan is no ordinary petty thief. He is a master thief. Jesus gave a good description of him. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Make sure you are gaining wisdom every day. You do that by studying the Word of God, learning from your spiritual father, elders, or reading books. I love listening to anointed sermons and reading books. Sometimes I can buy a book or listen to audios and learn in a couple hours what it took someone twenty years to learn.
As part of the Remnant, you are not going to be caught off guard. Resist the master thief, avoid ignorance, embrace the Word of God, and grow in biblical wisdom every day.
