Influential women of spiritual warfare. A godly woman knows how to fight spiritual warfare battles.God is looking for women who can impact regions with their God-given gifts. Men bring strength, but women bring influence. Influence is a trait that can do amazing things to advance the Kingdom of God.

Genghis Khan led the Mongol army. He subjugated more territory and people in twenty-five years than the mighty Romans did in four hundred. The fruit of his conquest was remarkable. Seen in nearly every conquered territory was expanded trade, prosperity, and a budding of civilization. Part of the secret to his success was the warring queens.

The Real Difference Between Men and Women

We were holding a Global Cause Network Conference in Leon, Nicaragua. GCN consists of Champion Partners who help me advance the gospel of Christ around the world. My wife Rhonda likes to have a day of ministry just for the women and asked me to open the day’s meetings with prayer. As I was approaching the platform, the Holy Spirit said to tell the ladies there is a difference between men and women. I know what you think because my reaction was the same. Of course, there is a difference, and we are all aware of it. The physical differences between men and women were not what the Holy Spirit wanted to discuss.

Again, He said to tell the people there is a difference between men and women. The men bring strength into the Kingdom of God, and the women bring influence. Spiritual strength and influence are two important traits within the sons and daughters of Jehovah. The Holy Spirit said it was time for women to exercise their influence because that’s how God made them and when they do visible change will take place. He went on to say when husbands and wives “shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 18:19). This is the power of spiritual strength and spiritual influence uniting together.

Strength and influence bring me back to the history of Genghis Khan’s conquest. Jack Weatherford wrote, “Genghis Khan and the making of the modern world.” In the book, his research reveals while the Mongol men stayed busy on the battlefields conquering foreign countries the women managed the empire. If you’re a lady reading this, I’m sure you already know who runs the world. I’m not going to comment on that but after 36 years of marriage, I have learned a few things about women’s ability to manage a household. In fact, the Proverbs 31 virtuous woman is well known among Christians as a model for godly character and leadership within the home. Weatherford continued,

“Among the herding tribes, women traditionally managed the affairs at home while men went off to herd, hunt, or fight, and although the war campaigns now lasted for years rather than months and the home consisted of not merely a collection of ger camps (countryside campsites) but a vast empire, women continued to rule.”

Maybe your husband is not herding, hunting, or fighting like the Mongols but maybe he is still battling spiritual forces of wickedness in the marketplace. As a godly woman you probably know what’s it’s like to battle too as you try and help him make ends meet, raise children, and fight your own spiritual warfare battles.

Places of Leadership

As the Mongol Empire grew, the women took a greater place of leadership. Ogodei Khan, the third son of Ghangis Khan, ruled for long periods of time. As a man taken by excessive drunkenness, his administrative powers were conveyed to his senior wife, Toregene. When Ogodei died in 1241, she became the official regent. A regent is someone authorized to act in a ruling capacity. This reminds me of the Apostle Peter’s teaching “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

For the next ten years, Toregene and a small group of other women controlled the largest empire in world history. Weatherford points out that “none of the women had been born a Mongol but had instead been married into the family from a conquered steppe tribe.” And this dear reader is what caught my attention ---“ most of the women were Christians.” So what was the secret to Genghis Khan’s success in bringing in unprecedented territorial prosperity? The warring queens were Christian women.

An ancient text describes Toregene as the Great Empress and, according to Weatherford, “shows clearly not only that she was operating the empire but while the men fought she pursued an entirely different line of activities supporting religion and education and working to build buildings and important social structures on an imperial scale.”

Jesus said, “I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail” (Matthew 16:18). As a citizen of the Kingdom of God, you have been authorized to act as regent (Luke 10:19). You are part of the royal priesthood of kings. You are a king operating by his delegated authority. Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords. Scripture declares of Christ’s governing kings, “But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life” (Mark 10:30).

Uniting Strength and Influence

The Holy Spirit has pointed out that men and women are different. Men bring strength and women influence. Individually these traits can do amazing things to advance the Kingdom of God. The dynamics are miraculous when the two come together in agreement.

“This noble king was called Genghis Khan who in his time was of so great renown that there was nowhere in no region so excellent a lord in all things,” wrote Geoffrey Chaucer in “The Squire’s Tale.” The history of Genghis Khan is impressive. The influence of Christian women within the Mongol empire is even more telling. As already said in nearly every conquered territory was expanded trade, prosperity, and a budding of civilization. Now we understand there was a state within a state and a kingdom within a kingdom. Scripture says, “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:7).

Let the kings –and queens—arise!
