Christ went to church and cast evil spirits out of a man. This event amazed those present. They said, “For with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits and they do obey him. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee” (Mark 1:27-28). It's time to see evil spirits driven out again.
In the church, an unclean spirit spoke saying, “Let us alone” (Mark 1:23-28). “Unclean”, Greek akathartos, means morally corrupted, sexually perverted, debased, lustful, and lewd in thought and life. (Today people are celebrating sin. They call it Pride Month.) Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and cast it out. Today these same morally corrupted and sexually perverted spirits are spreading their lewd lifestyles throughout the land.
The Bible declares, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Sin should never be celebrated. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Galatians 6:7-8). Christ is still the answer.
We see evil spirits celebrating sin and corruption around the world. In some circumstances, these wicked spirits go unchallenged. Christ never taught his followers to ignore demonic spirits. He modeled the way for us regarding confrontations with demon powers, not people, and healing the sick. Scripture declares, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). As Disciples of Christ let us continue to contend for the faith.
