Many want to know how to get their prayers answered. Perhaps you have struggled with that. You pray and pray, but it seems nothing happens. When you do not receive an answer, you become frustrated and disheartened. Then the enemy torments your mind with all sorts of vain imaginations. I have good news for you; God does answer prayer. You just need to learn some more about Him.
There are several reasons that prayer does not get answered. One of the reasons we will cover here. Knowing this will help you understand the secret of answered prayer. First, you need to know that God desires to answer your prayer. He says,
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
God has you in his heart. There is not a day that goes by that your Lord is not thinking about you. You are his creation, fashioned in his image, and redeemed by his atoning blood. He is your heavenly Father, and your Father enjoys your company.
When I was a young man, there were people in my church that knew how to touch God with their prayers. They were different. They were uncommon believers with remarkable prayer lives. You could tell their prayers carried them into the presence of God and the realm of the Spirit.
They were known back then as prayer warriors. Those old time prayer warriors knew some things that we youngsters did not. They knew how to approach God in the way that He liked. I used to listen to them pray. They would approach the Lord with worship and adoration. They spent a long while telling God how wonderful he was. They did this before anything else. I am sure they were following Christ’s instructions to His disciples regarding prayer. “Our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name” (Matthew 6:9).
These prayer warriors were not shy either. They boldly jumped right in there. They taught that God loves his sons and daughters to approach him boldly. Scripture says the same, “Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). After spending some time in adoration, they began to decree the will of God. In other words, they started declaring the will of God. This was important. These prayer warriors understood they could get in agreement with the Word of God. Scripture says, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways” (Job 22:28). The thing decreed is the will of God. There it is. The secret of answered prayer.
John gave us the secret of answered prayer too. He wrote, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him” (1 John 5:13-15). The secret to answered prayer is praying the will of God. Scripture says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).
Faith begins when the will of God is known. It is God’s will for you to prosper, be healthy, live long, have success, and receive answered prayer. The secret to answered prayer starts by knowing the will of God. Scripture says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). With faith, we can approach God with knowledge that he will answer our prayers.
