Discover the Power of Prayer and Abide in the Shadow of the Almighty You want to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit so bad, but sometimes it feels like he is nowhere to be found. I know the feeling. You are faithful, attend church, worship, tithe, and still nothing. It is like God's on vacation. "What's going on?" you ask. "What can I do to hear God more clearly?"
In our busy lives, it is easy to get caught up in our fast-paced daily routines getting up early, cooking, washing clothes, cleaning house, and paying bills. We are being pulled in every direction. Even staying in the spirit while driving on the Interstate is a challenge. With all this going on every day, it is easy to understand how we can lose some of our ability to hear the Holy Spirit's voice.
There will always be competition for your time. There is no escaping that. The important thing is to make time for prayer. Making time to pray before your day starts is always a good idea. Look at this promise,
"I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures" (Proverbs 8:17-21).
It is nice to know when you seek God early you will find him. Moreover, when you find Him, you find everything He has.
There is corporate prayer, praying with your Brothers and Sisters at church, and there is personal prayer, that is just you and God. Prayer is not a dead religious activity, but a time of intimate fellowship and communion with God. It is a time of worship, adoration, and sharing your thoughts and feelings with your Father. This kind of prayer takes place in your secret place.
Everyone has their secret place. Some pray in the bathtub, others on their knees in front of their sofas, and still others inside their closet. Your secret place is your secret place. It does not matter where your secret place is; it matters what happens there.
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." (Psalms 91:1-7)
The two easiest places to hear the voice of God are in your local church and your secret place. Start your day off right, get in that secret place. Listen for that still small voice, spiritual thought, impression, prompting, word of knowledge or Holy Spirit leading. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Romans 8:14).
