What’s happening on the inside of you? You already know that outward appearance can be deceitful. A person can look like they have it all together but on the inside are falling apart. Humans tend to think that those that look the part, have great manners, and can quote Scripture are somehow doing great. The truth is, as the old saying goes, "You can’t judge a book by its cover".
Apostle Paul wrote about his inner struggle. Let’s take a look.
“I truly delight in God's commands, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge. I've tried everything and nothing helps. I'm at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn't that the real question” (Romans 7:22-24MSG)?
He is writing about his inner struggle to do good but finds there is an inner war going on. It’s so intense that he cries out to God for help. Perhaps you have noticed the same struggle. Your great hope is to stay the course. Allow the Holy Spirit to do a deep work within. Remember, God is the author and finisher of your faith.
In the next chapter of Romans, Paul spends much time writing about being led by the Spirit. He wrote, “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity (hostile) against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:5-8).
The point is, God is well able to help you. Put God first, lean not on your understanding but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path. All of us battle that inner warfare. If you are suffering on the inside don’t run from God, run toward God. Let him finish his work in you. Cast all your care on him for he cares for you. Enter the school of the Holy Spirit and let him teach you, through the Word of God, what you need to learn. You are a winner in Christ! Don’t stop. Keep going!
