During praise and worship, the Holy Spirit spoke two words to me, "fresh start." Then after the church announcements, I introduced our Friday night special speaker for the night whose topic was "Toe-the-line."
Toe-the-line means to approach the starting line as at the beginning of a race. Maybe you have heard this before, ready, get set, and go!
The Holy Spirit was indicating, however, that some people could not line up for a fresh start because they were walking in darkness and playing around with sin. I don't have to point out all the activities of darkness. You already know what those are. The point is to come out of them. Christ spoke of light and darkness. Let's take a look.
"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God" (John 3:19-21).
Notice what the Lord is saying. He is making it clear there is a difference between light and darkness. Some love living in darkness and refuse to come into the light of God's truth because their deeds are evil and wicked. These will never enjoy God's truth, righteousness, and peace. This group of people cannot, or should we say will not come out of darkness. Their end is separation from God and eternal damnation. On the other hand, there are people that love the light of God's truth. To these God says, "fresh start." That's really good news. The last couple of years has been difficult. Some started off strong and got sidetracked or hindered in one way or another. If that's you, be strengthened and listen to the words of the Holy Spirit and grab hold of that fresh start. In other words, start again.
As pointed out already, those that love darkness will not be able to tow-the-line and benefit from a fresh start. The good news is the Holy Spirit is letting you know there is a fresh start for those that come out of darkness and enter the light of God's truth. James wrote, "But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed" (James 1:25).
Be encouraged. When you live in the light, as He is in the light, you have fellowship with God and can enjoy the benefits of your salvation. The bottom line, avoid the corruption and darkness that is in the world. Stay in the light. Get up on the starting line and enjoy a fresh start.
