Understanding the Power of Prayer and Spiritual Warfare
Prayer, intercession, and spiritual warfare prayer are important because they are a way to communicate with God, giving Him the honor and glory He deserves. They also allow us to take part in the spiritual battle that takes place in the unseen spirit world.
Prayer and spiritual warfare allow us to stand in the gap for others in need, intercede for them, and ask God to work in their lives and in the world around us. By engaging in these activities, we can actively participate in and become a part of the divine plan God has for His people.
The apostle Paul wrote about demonic forces that could only be defeated through prayer, through spiritual warfare prayer. He wrote, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4). This refers to a battle in the spirit through prayer. We call this spiritual warfare prayer, which uses spiritual authority to bind the powers of darkness that come against our lives. This verse is reminding us that our spiritual warfare is not fought with physical weapons but with spiritual weapons that are powerful enough to break down any spiritual stronghold.
These weapons were given to us by God, and we need to use them to defeat the enemy. One of the most important things to remember is that Christ gave you authority. It's the same authority he gave the 70. The Word declares, "Even the devils are subject unto us through thy name" (Luke 10:17). Also, when Jesus called the twelve disciples, he gave them power (authority) against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease" (Matthew 10:1).
Once you understand that you have been delegated with a measure of spiritual authority, it opens your eyes to the wonderful ability to fight back against Satan. In other words, you don't have to put up with his demonic attacks any more. You can fight back. You can do something about it.
Paul taught, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (Ephesians 6:11–13).
Spiritual warfare is important because it is the way in which we fight against the spiritual forces of evil that are at work in the world. Through prayer and spiritual warfare prayer, we can call upon the power of God, bind the powers of darkness, and stand in the gap for others in need. It is a means of engaging in the spiritual battle between good and evil and taking part in God's divine plan for His people. Remember, no weapon formed against you can prosper and greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
