Leave Comfort Zones, Become Battle-Ready as a Disciples of Christ
Comfort zones. You know what they are. They are the places of butterflies and lace where everything is blue skies and wonderful. In the comfort zone, there is no opposition, the bills are paid, and life is good. "No worries," as the Australians would say.
Christ warned about comfort zones. He said they are the places of the apathetic and lukewarm. He declared, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou were cold or hot” (Revelation 3:15). This is the comfort zone.
For the Disciples of Christ, comfort zones are no-go zones. They are the places of the half-hearted and indifferent. Comfort zones are nothing more than hindrances of destiny. The prophet Joel spoke into the lives of the lukewarm. He said, “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare for war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong” (Joel 3:9-10).
Christ said the comfort zone crowd was in dangerous company. He said, “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16).
When the children of Israel spied out the Promise Land they brought back an evil report. “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight” (Numbers 13:33). In other words, the land is good but it's not worth the fight. These are the words of the lukewarm and apathetic.
Disciples of Christ carry a different spirit, they are battle-ready, fervent in prayer, and clothed with the armor of God. They are like Caleb that said, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). These warriors are exciting doers of the word and not forgetful hearers.
If you are in your comfort zone shake yourself loose. Come out of there in Jesus's Name. Do something exciting. Wake up. Get involved. Serve, do, and go.
